![]() We had a dog with us and the campground allows them, but the leash laws are very strict. ![]() People seem very friendly in this campground. Shaded, clean, and with pretty views all around. We camped in a tent and our spot was lovely. Alas, we realise that comes with the territory of camping sometimes. The only thing we didn’t love was the allowance of generators, which were really loud during the evening and gas smelling. The camp host was very friendly and helpful. The campground is very well maintained and the pit toilets are cleaned daily. It is a much quieter lake than some of the bigger ones in the area, like Sylvan and Stockade, so I was able to bring down the dog and a book while he fished and relax without too much noise or distraction. Overall we really enjoyed our time at this campground and would definitely stay again on a return trip!Ī charming little campground! My boyfriend, a fly fisherman, loved being so close to the charming little lake and he did really well fishing it for rainbow and brown trout. Site 4 was beautiful, but it also had a drop-off down to the lake area behind it that made it a bit more difficult to let them roam safely. Some technical notes for those traveling with young children: Our kids are 7 & 4 years old and we like to give them some freedom to explore when we go camping. If you're a light sleeper, you may want to bring earplugs for this purpose. Also during weeknights, campers could be heard singing and chanting until 12 am from the neighboring Bob Marshall camping area (not sure but I think this is a boy scout camp). We got 2 out of 8 stakes in, and ended up tying the remaining guy lines to large rocks to keep the tent anchored, after seeing several neighboring campers doing the same. Things to be aware of: We broke several tent stakes trying to get our tent secured in the rocky soil. Water faucets are located near the restrooms. Our hosts were friendly and helpful and available throughout the day. ![]() There were 3 restrooms (vaulted toilets) evenly dispersed throughout the campground and they were kept meticulously clean by our campground hosts. We met several local families on this trip who mentioned this is their favorite campground in the area. The campround is centrally located to many activites and attractions in the Black Hills area. But older kids were able to jump in the water from nearby rocks or off the dock. While we saw people on canoes and paddleboards out on the lake throughout the day, there isn't a swim beach at this particular lake. Several sites have views of the lake through the trees (#4 was one of these). The campground is beautiful, with plenty of room between sites, all of which are surrounded by towering ponderosa pine trees. We stayed 4 nights in July (site #4) at Bismarck Lake campground. ![]()
